Volunteers Stage "Santaland" at Chestnut Ridge Park
Mark Scott
BUFFALO, NY (2006-12-08) The clean-up of Erie County parks from the October snowstorm has largely been completed. And that will allow this weekend's "Santaland" to go on as scheduled at Chestnut Ridge Park.
There are still some parts of Chestnut Ridge that are off limits to parks-goers. And that means, at least for this weekend, there will be no hay rides at Santaland. But event organizers say there will still be a lot for kids to do with most activities taking place inside the park's casino.
Two groups -- the Western New York Coalition for Progress and Revitalize Buffalo -- saved what was then known as Santa's Park after it was cut in the wake of the 2005 county budget crisis.
Hours both this weekend and next are 10 to 4.
Erie County Parks Commissioner Andy Sedita says winter hours are now in effect at all county parks. He says they're open for a variety of winter activities, including cross-country skiing and sledding.
While his crews have removed all debris from the October storm, Sedita says caution is advised because of the ongoing threat of falling limbs.
