Group Supports Bass Pro Project

BUFFALO 2005-07-06 A vote of confidence for the proposed multi-million dollar Bass Pro project on the Buffalo waterfront.
The Western New York Coalition for Progress says it has reviewed plans to put a Bass Pro Superstore in Memorial Auditorium. The non-partisan group says it believes the proposal is good for the community.
Coalition member Alan Bedenko says in addition to the $66-million in public money earmarked for Bass Pro, the company is putting $57-million of its own money into the project.
"We don't think that Bass Pro is some magical silver bullet...but we think the Bass Pro project...will definetly move us forward," Bedenko said.
The coalition also suggests a sales tax-free zone around the new Bass Pro store. The group also supports the eventual removal of the Skyway as a way to further promote waterfront development.
Bass Pro is scheduled to open its Buffalo store in 2007.
